Cindy Sherman - Untitled #224
Replicating Caravaggio’s “Sick Bacchus” which was also thought to be a self portrait of the artist himself as well. Though Sherman never considered her works as self portraits, taking on an identity of anonymity through created characters rather than seeing her own self in her portraits. So in that respect, this is a “presumed” self portrait replicating another “presumed” self portrait.
(also one of my favorite paintings ever.)
